- I would much rather teach in a classroom that has a lot of digital technologies. I feel that students learn best by being able to explore and do hands on activites. If you can give a child a camera and tell them to take pictures and classify differnt Autumn leaves, they are not only learning about the leaves, they are also able to go back and look at the leaves and how they differ in color, shape, texture ect. White boards and smart boards are also great ways for children to participate in a hands on way. These technoligies are very interactive and a fun and interesting way for children to learn. I will look forward to using technologies in my classroom, I hope my future students will love and have fun using and learning with these technologies.
For both audio and visual technologies, identify one traditional and one emerging technology from the book, and explain how you could potentially use all four devices in the classroom. Post your responses on your blog page you created for this class.
Helpful Hints
- You do not need to use all four at once within the classroom. Just say how you could possibly use all four.
- Make sure to proof your posts for correct spelling and grammar. You will lose points for pervasive errors.
- Have fun and be creative with the possible ways you could use these different technologies!!
- Visual- traditional: tape recorder or record player. This could be used in the classroom to record a story and play it during independent reading time. The child could listen to the recording and follow along in the book. These are being replaced by pod casts. Emerging: Internet audio, children would be able to pull up a story on the internet and listen to it. There a tons of free pod casts on the net that allow teachers to use audio stories, and not have to take the time to record them, the traditional way on a tape or cd recorder.
- Visual-traditional: VCR, teachers would show videos in class using VHS and a VCR. There are a lot of cords and problems associated with VCR's, technical difficulties, and VHS can get ruined or have issues projecting the image from the tape to the VCR. Emerging: DVD player, The pro to using a DVD player and DVD's in the classroom are, you don't have to rewind the tape like with VHS, you can skip to a specific part, DVD's are less bulky that VHS, and usually the picture quality is better.
